All of my trees were germinated from seeds, pips or a fruit stone, some of which were contributed from family and friends.
Some of my trees are from nursery stock purchased from a local garden centre.
The Journey begins !!!.May 2014
Saved the pips (only 2 !!! ) from the Grapefruit, removed the white outer protective layer, soaked
them in warm water and left for 48 Hours.
Wrapped them in a moist paper towel and placed in a resealable plastic bag, left them in a warm
place to germinate.
After 10 days the 2 x pips had started to germinate, transplanted into a small plant pot, one of
the seedlings did not survive and the only remaining one is pictured on the right as of Sept 2020.
How it all started in 2013……….!!!
I have always wanted to try and grow something different, so early in 2013 …..I asked myself
would it be possible to grow an Avacado?
So after eating my wifes wonderful salad, I saved the stone then buried it in a plant pot
outside, it wasnt long before the local Squirrel found it and took off with it !!!!.
Then I tried again and the easiest and simplest way that I found, was by using the “toothpick”
method.
Placed 3 x toothpicks in the Avacado pit, suspended it over a cup of water and left in a warm
position, and replaced with clean water every few days.
After 5 weeks, the pit started to crack at the bottom and a tiny little white root appeared,
after another few weeks had passed the root steadily grew longer, then the Avacado started
to split from the top and a small green shoot appeared.
After the young shoot had grown its first natural two leaves and was approx 150mm (6”) tall,
re-potted up it into a small plant pot and let it develop and grow.
After one year of growth, it had outgrown its first small pot and of course the window sill,
repotted the Avacado, re located it outside into my poly greenhouse.
2 years later during the winter of 2015 the severe cold had got to my Avacado, some of the
main branches had turned black and it had lost most of its leaves, but……. it survived….. 5
years later and this is what it looks like on the left as of May 2020.

Robinia pseudoacacia, commonly known in its native
territory as black locust, is a medium-sized hardwood
deciduous tree, it is endemic to a few small areas of
the United States, but it has been widely planted and

an invasive species in some areas. Another common
name is false acacia, a literal translation of the
specific name.
Privet Tree
A privet is a flowering plant shrub of the olive family,

Horse Chestnut 3yr old
Horse Chestnut was in Britain in 1616 and is now

The Wollemi Pine is one of the world's
oldest and rarest plants dating back to
the time of the dinosaursWollemia is a

Araucariaceae. It was known only
through fossil records until 1994,

nobilis was discovered in a temperate
rainforest wilderness area of the
Wollemi National Park in New South

BEGINNINGS FROM SEED TO A
SAPLING TO A BONSAI
The Cotoneaster Bonsai tree.
Collected ripe red berries for their seed, soaked all the seeds in water for about 48 hours then
put them in a re-sealable plastic bag and moist paper towel.
After they had germinated, planted in a plastic pot till they had grown to about 10 cm then
transfered to a plastic trainer pot and let it grow for at least 3 years so that it could develope
its thick trunk.
While it was in the trainer pot, carried out shaping and clipping to encourage thick foliage.
Early Stages
With evergreen trees, shrubs or bushes such as the Cotoneaster, it is best to wait
until the tree is quite active and the weather is warmer before repotting them.
BOUGAINVILLEA
Bougainvillea is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees belonging to the four o' clock
family, Nyctaginaceae. It is native to eastern South America, found from Brazil, west to Peru, and south to
southern Argentina. Different authors accept from 4 to 22 species in the genus. The inflorescence
consists of large colourful sepal-like bracts which surround three simple waxy flowers, gaining popularity
for the plant as an ornamental.

First Stage
First pick some Almonds whether organic or shop bought.
Soaked the Almond’s in tepid water for 48 hours replacing the water every day.
Wrapped the Almonds in moist paper towel and placed in a plastic zip lock bag in a warm place.
After 3 to 4weeks the seeds started to germinate.

The Cork Oak is a truly fantastic tree which is
given its common name due to the deeply
fissured corky bark that it produces: in fact, it is
one of only a handful of trees that is able to re-
generate its bark and it produces the cork
through the dead bark cells that are rich in
suberin – a wax-like coating. For the average
gardener however, the Quercus Suber is valued
for its ornamental properties and it makes a
great specimen tree. The slightly lobed leaves
are pointed at their tips and are dark green in
colour with paler undersides. Acorns also
appear in autumn on more mature trees and
these are popular with wildlife.

Casuarina Equisetifolia
The Australian Pine ( Casuarina equisetifolia ),
known locally as the whistleing tree is a leafless
evergreen tree with horsetail-like thin and
jointed gray-green branches that resemble pine
needles and give it its name “ equisetifolia ” (like
a horsetail). Despite its name, it is not a pine,
but belongs to the Beefwood family.The native
range extends throughout Southeast Asia,
Northern Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Acacia dealbata, the silver wattle, blue wattle or mimosa, is a species of flowering
plant in the legume family Fabaceae, native to southeastern Australia in New South
Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory and widely introduced
in Mediterranean, warm temperate, and highland tropical landscapes.
Cercis siliquastrum, commonly known as the
Judas tree or Judas-tree, is a small
deciduous tree from Southern Europe and
Western Asia which is noted for its prolific
display of deep pink flowers in spring. It is also
referred to as a traditional Palestinian
medicinal plant for its origins and studies
demonstrating its impact on breast cancer.
FUSCHIA
Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees.
The first to be scientifically described, Fuchsia triphylla, was discovered on the
Caribbean island of Hispaniola about 1696–1697 by the French Minim monk and
botanist, Charles Plumier, during his third expedition to the Greater Antilles. He
named the new genus after German botanist Leonhart Fuchs.

The Chinese elm has beautiful grayish-green,
mottled bark that sheds with age, displaying varying
colors. Use it as a single- or multiple-trunk tree and
give it plenty of water for fast growth. It has many
traits that make it a great landscape tree, producing
a dense canopy of foliage that creates a graceful
appearance.
Japanese Alpine Cherry
Prunus nipponica, also called Japanese alpine cherry
(Takanezakura), is a shrub which originates from the islands of
Hokkaido and Honshu, Japan.
It grows to a height of about 5 meters (16 ft) and can grow in
sandy, loamy, and clay soils.
This species is one of the hardiest of cherry trees, well-suited
to cold climates. The flowers are a very light pink or even white
in color.Flowers bloom in the first half of spring. They have 5
petals and are 3 centimeters (1.2 in) in diameter. The pistils are
usually longer than the stamen. The leaves are serrated and
the bark is gray.
In autumn the leaves turn yellow and orange-red; these are
rare autumnal colors for a cherry tree.

They are deciduous or evergreen shrubs growing to 2–13 m tall.
The leaves are opposite, entire, 7–20 cm long and 3–7 cm
broad. The flowers are 2–3 cm wide, with numerous spirally-
arranged yellow or white tepals; they are strongly scented, and
produced in late winter or early spring before the new leaves.
The fruit is an elliptic dry capsule 3–4 cm long.
Forsythia 'Minigold'
Forsythia is a genus of flowering plants in the olive family
Oleaceae.
There are about 11 species, mostly native to eastern Asia,
but one native to southeastern Europe.
Forsythia is also one of the plant's common names, along
with Easter tree;
The shrub has an upright habit with arching branches and
grows to 3 to 4 metres high.The opposite leaves turn
yellowish or occasionally purplish in the autumn before
falling.The bright yellow flowers are produced on one- to
two-year-old growth.
